Get started

Pick your device. Every path ends the same way: a verified copy and a receipt showing selected, succeeded, skipped and failed.

iPhone

With the Files app

Applies where iOS mounts the drive (see compatibility).

  1. Plug in the drive. Open Files and confirm the drive appears under Locations. If it does not, your phone has not mounted it; stop here and check the compatibility list.
  2. In Photos, select what to back up. Tap Share → Export Unmodified Original. This keeps the full-quality file and its metadata.
  3. Save to the drive. Choose the drive in Files and a folder name you will recognise.
  4. Verify. Open the folder on the drive and spot-check a few files, or use the MemriBank app for a checksum-verified copy once it is available.

Android

With the MemriBank app

The app uses the system photo picker for the source and the system document picker for the drive, so it never needs broad access to your photos.

  1. Plug in the drive and allow the connection if your phone asks.
  2. Open Back Up, choose the photos or albums, then choose the drive as the destination.
  3. Check the estimate. The app shows the count, the size and the free space before it starts. It refuses to start if the drive is too full.
  4. Let it run. Unplug or switch apps and it resumes without duplicates. The receipt lists every file that was skipped or failed and why.

Computer

Like any flash drive

  1. Use the USB-A or USB-C end. The drive appears as removable storage on macOS, Windows and Linux.
  2. Copy folders across. Keep originals; the drive does not need a special format.
  3. Eject before unplugging. Pulling a drive mid-write is the most common cause of a damaged file system.

Three rules

  • Nothing is deleted from your phone. Not by the app, not by the drive, not by us. Deleting from your phone is always your separate choice.
  • Keep a second copy of anything irreplaceable. A drive can be lost or damaged.
  • A copy counts only when it verifies. The app compares a checksum of every file after writing.
